Our Story
I’m Jason Burnett, and my journey with Galvan’s Market began when I was just 15 years old. Back then, I was simply looking for a part-time job ; something to help my mom out financially and maybe pay for a little gas.
After a few failed attempts at finding work, I was finally hired at the Butcher Shop as the “Clean-Up Kid.” My job was to scrub floors and clean equipment, but as I worked, I started learning the rhythm and heart of the place. Over time, I moved from cleaning to crafting sandwiches at the deli counter, then to cutting meats and preparing the fresh, delicious offerings Galvan’s was known for.
Nearly ten years later, after working through high school and college, developing my skills, and eventually becoming Shop Manager. I left to pursue what I called my “Big Boy Job” in the corporate world.
For 17 years, I worked in corporate management as an Investigator, Store Director, District Manager, and Clinic Director. Yet, no matter where I went, I found myself missing the simplicity and authenticity of where it all began - the satisfaction of serving great food, made with care, that families could proudly take home and share.
In August 2022, I stopped by my old workplace to visit my Butcher Shop family. I casually asked Joe, “So, when are you going to retire?” He smiled and said, “When are you going to buy it?”
And just like that, everything came full circle.
Today, I’m the proud owner of Galvan’s Market, right here in my hometown of San Leandro, California. We continue the rich tradition and legacy of Galvan’s Meats, a beloved family business since 1960.
At Galvan’s, our promise is simple: Fresh. Local. Traditional. We’re proud to serve the same quality and community spirit that’s been part of this place for over six decades, and we can’t wait to share it with you and your family.
